Position Summary:
The Payroll Manager for Athletico is a hands-on leadership position responsible for the bi-weekly payroll processing, supervising payroll staff, directing the collection, calculations and entering or uploading data, following applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, maintaining the financial records for current and past employees, running necessary reports, analyses and audits. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct the company’s payroll and timekeeping procedures
  • Ensures the efficient process, accuracy, and compliance for bi-weekly disbursement of payroll (includes garnishments, deductions, benefits, taxes, regulations, and legal statutes)
  • Determines payroll liabilities (federal and state income, SURS, Social Security, Medicare, unemployment, worker’s compensation).
  • Reconciles and resolves issues related to all payroll withholding, and acts as the primary liaison to state and federal agencies governing the withholding.
  • Lead year-end preparation (calendar and fiscal year), including W2’s and reporting.
  • Research payroll-related issues, analyzes alternatives, recommends policy, and implements effective solutions efficiently and proactively (including exception reporting and audit processes).
  • Supports people leaders and employees with training and information relating to payroll functions, such as time and attendance, including timecard approval.
  • Supervises and coaches payroll team, including hiring, onboarding, mentoring and training and development of team staff.
  • Collaborates with key internal stakeholders as required

Qualifications

  • Education: 
    • Bachelor’s degree or in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field required
  • Certifications: 
    • CCP certification preferred but not required
  • Work Experience:
    • Minimum of 7 years of progressive Payroll experience, including experience in a managerial role
    • Minimum of 3 years of Supervisory or Management experience

Knowledge and Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years proficiency in ADP Vantage and eTime supporting a 5,000+ person, multi-state company
  • Technical knowledge of local and state tax requirements to insure accurate tax reporting
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement process improvements
  • Ability to extract and work with large and complex data on multiple platforms, primarily in ADP ad eTime using Excel
  • Familiarity with accounting practices and procedures
  • High attention to detail and job ownership
  • Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes
  • Able to work well with senior executives and management team, as well as mentor/lead department
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to regularly explain policies and procedures, write and edit reports and coordinate the work of others.
