Position Summary

One of many functions of the Billing Center is to ensure accurate posting of receipts and contractual adjustments as well as processing overpayments/refunds.  The Insurance Refund Specialist will be primarily responsible for processing refunds for insurance related credit balances. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researching insurance company requests for refunds
  • Researching the overpaid insurance and credit balance reports
  • Correcting any accounts to resolve the credit balance (incorrect adjustments, pmt on wrong acct/date)
  • Requesting refund checks weekly from Accounting
  • Posting refund checks into NextGen and mailing to the appropriate parties.
  • Maintaining the AP spreadsheet
  • Providing quality customer service
  • Attending all Billing Center Staff Meetings
  • Maintaining a work schedule of 8 hours with ½ hour for lunch, while demonstrating flexibility when necessary
  • Assiting in patient refunds if needed
  • Assisting receipt department as needed
  • Performing other duties and special projects as assigned

 

 

Qualifications

  • Proven skill to provide patient care/service that exceeds expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership for one's own actions or decisions
  • Proven skill to foster a sense of teamwork and cooperation while working with others
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and audit data and make process improvement recommendations
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a team based environment

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently

Physical Demands: 

  • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
  • Possess the ability to fulfill any office activities normally expected in an office setting, to include, but not limited to:  remaining seated for periods of time to perform computer based work, participating in filing activity, lifting and carrying office supplies (paper reams, mail, etc.)
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel, and reach with hand and arms
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds 
  • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding)
  • Local travel required
